Police in north east Fife have urged people to be wary after a card skimming device was found in St Andrews.
A member of the public discovered the device at the Cashline ATM on Market Street at around 6pm on Friday.
Local officers are now investigating and have reminded cash machine users to look carefully for any suspicious items when they are making a transaction.
Sergeant Colette Mather, from Cupar Police Station, said: “On this occasion the member of the public was quick to notice the device and was thankfully not defrauded of any cash.
“Anyone with information that can help us identify who installed this item on the ATM should contact police immediately.
“Our communities should also keep a close eye out for similar devices on cash machines and if they believe an ATM has been tampered with, do not use it and report the matter to us.”
Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or make an anonymous report to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
