Ambition to build on initiatives to welcome more tourists to south west Fife

South west Fife is aiming to capitalise on a highly successful year to encourage even more tourists to the area.

Local councillors have heard about the work being done to encourage tourism.

Last season was successful and the areas is seeing an increase in the number of cruise visitors.

Fife Council is working alongside the Dunfermline and West Fife Local Tourism Association, VisitScotland and Fife Tourism Partnership to deliver a number of projects to increase footfall across Fife.

The tourism association was established to encourage collaborative working to increase economic impact from tourism.

It has been responsible for setting up:

• The Forth Cruise Project where volunteers meet cruises to promote the area. Estimated to encourage in the region of £5.5 million spend from visitors;

• Fife Pilgrim Way – appointment of a project development officer to encourage engagement and create a number of objectives including a 10-year management and maintenance plan;

• The Outlander Project – in partnership with VisitScotland and the Fife Tourism Partnership to encourage visitors to the series’ locations.

In addition there are a number of tourist activities organised by Fife Council which include the creation of Forth Bridge heritage champions and the Forth Bridges business working group, digital information kiosks, Battle of Jutland commemorations, training for World Host status, the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design and accessible tourism.
