A householder who saw a car crash into his garden has praised his “heroic” neighbours for rushing to the aid of the driver.
People living nearby ran to help when the Kia C’eed overturned and landed in Ross Sherret’s garden in South Parks Road, Glenrothes.
Driver Gordon Suttie, 67, was rushed to Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital and remains in a serious condition.
Mr Sherret, 72, described how neighbours pushed the car, which had landed on its side, as far back on to its wheels as they could so paramedics could attend to Mr Suttie.
He and wife Dorothy, 73, had just finished a late dinner when they heard a huge “clatter”.
Mr Sherret said: “We often get cars turning into Innes Road and running into the back of another car, so I thought that’s what had happened.
“I saw my neighbours on the other side of the road coming across then I saw the car in my garden.”
Mr Sherret said it was horrendous to witness the aftermath of the smash and added: “My wife was quite upset.”
However, he said that those who helped at the scene acted “heroically”.
He also said that a passing ambulance came upon on the scene before the one called for Mr Suttie arrived.
He said: “He was very lucky they were passing. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that he’s going to be all right.”
On Monday, police issued an appeal for information from witnesses to the collision.
Road Policing Sergeant Derek Allan said: “I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the silver Kia Cee’d in South Parks Road around 8.20 pm on Sunday 5th June.”
Mr Suttie is well known as a teacher and hundreds have joined a Facebook page to wish him a speedy recovery.
