Teen carried £1,000 of ecstasy tablets at Dunfermline pub

A Fife teenager found himself facing a drugs supplying charge after being searched by police at a Dunfermline bar.

Rhys Bonner, 19, of Webster Place, Rosyth, admitted that on October 3 last year at the Guildhall & Linen Exchange pub, High Street, Dunfermline and at Webster Place, he was concerned in the supplying of a controlled drug, ecstasy.

Depute fiscal Gary McMullan told Dunfermline Sheriff Court that police had attended the bar and officers “had reason to carry out a search of the accused” who was standing outside.

They found 100 ecstasy tablets which were “folded within a jumper in his possession” and Bonner was taken to the police station.

Police estimated the value of the drugs at £1,000.

Defence solicitor Stephen Morrison said it was a case of “social supply” to a group of friends and that his client had paid £350 for the drugs.

He continued: “It was his turn to purchase for him and four of his friends, with each contributing £70.

“I’m not aware of anyone paying £10 a tablet but that’s not my arena.

“He’s a first offender and from a supportive family.”

Mr Morrison said that at the time of the offence his client had “fallen into this pattern of behaviour which was a party lifestyle from Thursday to Sunday followed by isolation for the rest of the week alone in his room until it was party time again.”

The solicitor said that his client had now stopped all drugs misuse and had hopes of joining the army.

Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a community payback order with 100 hours of unpaid work.
