A leading campaign group calling for improvements to the A92 trunk road has said that it is “optimistic” after securing two public meetings with Transport Scotland.

The Scottish Government’s transport agency has agreed to attend meetings next month in Glenrothes and Freuchie following several years of concerns having been expressed by communities bordering the route.

Ron Page from the Glenrothes Area Futures Group (GAFG) said that it was important that members of the public turned out to have their say.

“They might not have the money to do some of the bigger suggestions, such as a roundabout at the Balfarg junction or to dual carriageway the road through Glenrothes, but we must be optimistic,” he said.

“We want as many people as possible to turnout so that Transport Scotland can hear what we have to say.

“We’ve been talking to the new Transport Minister and the new MSP’s, who have been very supportive.

“But it will all come down to money in the end.”

The GAFG has long campaigned for improvements to the A92 at the Balfarg junction, the scene of several accidents and near-misses in recent years.

It has identified five hazards on the short stretch it would like to see addressed.

Meanwhile, a high-profile campaign has also been operated by residents of Freuchie about safety on the route.

The first meeting will take place in the Rothes Halls, Glenrothes, on Tuesday July 12 between 7pm and 8pm.

The Freuchie meeting will take place two days later, Thursday July 14, in the Lumsden Memorial Hall, between 3.30pm and 4.30pm.
