Covid Scotland: Outbreak linked to Styx Kirkcaldy as 38 test positive

Nearly 40 people with links to Styx Pool Hall in Kirkcaldy have now tested positive for coronavirus, NHS Fife has revealed.

The popular local nightspot said it had been forced to close after claiming someone who attended the venue had the virus.

NHS Fife has now revealed 38 cases are linked to the bar as they seek to track down anyone who may have attended on Saturday, May 29.

In an appeal to locals who were there to come forward, NHS Fife said: “38 people with links to Styx Pool Hall in Kirkcaldy have tested positive for COVID-19.

“Our Public Health team are working with the venue to trace patrons who were there on Saturday 29th May.

“If you were there, please get in touch with our contact tracing team on 01592 226435 or fife.hpt@nhs.scot.”

One customer who was at the venue told The Courier on Monday: “It’s really worrying if someone has turned up who knew they Covid.

“They’ve put us all at risk if they did.

“I thought it was quite safe, there was good social distancing.”

Styx Kirkcaldy has voluntarily closed until June 11 whilst a deep clean operation gets underway.

In an update to customers the business owners said: “We have waited a long time to get open again but due to an inconsiderate person who was in our venue, who has Covid, we are now forced to close once again.

“We are following all of the government guidelines and we are in contact with Test and Protect.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this causes but we have to look after our staff and the customer’s health.

“We are starting a deep clean tomorrow morning and we are getting a company in who specialize in this.

“We are hoping to open again on Friday 11th June and we look forward to seeing you all again.”
