Fife firefighters had to spring into action after their own station started to burn.
Flames shot from the roof as construction work went wrong at Kirkcaldy and the alarm was raised.
In what will surely be one of the speediest responses in the station’s history, crews scrambled to douse the flames.
They quickly brought the blaze under control, with the drama lasting less than five minutes.
The station,on Dunnikier Road, opened in April 1938 and celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2013.
It was extensively renovated in 1989.
A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “As part of refurbishment work at Kirkcaldy Fire Station, contractors were carrying out repairs to the roof.
“During that work, a minor fire was inadvertently caused at around 11.15am.
“Firefighters from the station swiftly responded and the fire was quickly under control and extinguished in under five minutes.
“Repairs to the roof have already been carried out.”
Scottish Fire and Rescue said the short-lived incident had not affected services in the town.
