Woman’s body found in Dunfermline park

The boys were arrested following an incident at Pitencrieff Park.
The boys were arrested following an incident at Pitencrieff Park.

A Dunfermline park and surrounding streets were cordoned off following the discovery of a young woman’s body.

Police were called to Headwell Park, off Headwell Road, on Wednesday morning following the grim find, understood to have been made by a dog walker at around 7.30am.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the 20-year-old.

However, an investigation by Police Scotland continues.

The woman’s family have been informed of her death and are being supported by officers.

Headwell Road was cordoned off from the junction with Arthur Street and locals were prevented from entering the park, which has a children’s play area.

Residents reported seeing several emergency vehicles and police, firefighters and paramedics around the play park.

Police remained at the scene until around 10am.

One neighbour said: “The police came to my door and said there had been a serious incident and asked if I had seen or heard anything, which I hadn’t.

“The firemen were using a big tarpaulin and the area was all sealed off.

“It’s very sad that there’s been a body found.”

John Proudfoot, who lives nearby, said he was stopped from entering the park as he walked his dog at around 7.30am.

He said: “It looked like a serious incident. There were five police cars, two ambulances, a paramedic car and a fire engine.”

The park, which is bordered by Canmore golf course, is overlooked by a number of houses in Arthur Street, Royal Scot Way and St Margarets Well.

Police are understood to have conducted door-to-door enquiries at several houses and flats with a view of the park.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police in Fife were called to Headwell Road in Dunfermline around 7.30am on Wednesday October 5 after the body of a 20-year-old woman was found.

“Next of kin have now been traced and officers are supporting them at this difficult time.

“Enquiries into the death are ongoing, however there are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”
