Fife MPs have united to back women hit by changes to the state pension age.
Petitions were lodged on Tuesday at Westminster by Douglas Chapman, Peter Grant, Stephen Gethins and supported by Roger Mullin.
The signatures were collected by campaigners of the WASPI group (Women Against State Pension Inequality), who are calling for the UK Government to make fair transitional arrangements for women born in the 1950s who have been affected by changes to the state pension age.
Mr Chapman said: ” Along with the other Fife MPs, I fully support the campaign and we are determined to see a change in the law which would see their full pension rights returned to them.”
Mr Grant, who recently met with local campaigners, said he had been shocked to hear from constituents who are directly affected.
“It’s completely unacceptable that many thousands of women will actually lose out financially as a result of changes that were deigned to make pensions more equal,” he added.
Mr Gethins said thousands of women across Fife had been disadvantaged by the inequality of these changes to the state pension
“As Fife’s MPs we will continue to support those affected and campaign for justice for all women disadvantaged by these changes.”
Saying there was no WASPI group in his constituency, Mr Mullin now intends to hold a meeting to invite women affected by the increase in the State Pension Age across Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath to discuss their concerns.
He added: “I am very supportive of calls for the introduction of transitional measures, and as a founding member of the Women Against State Inequality All Party Parliamentary Group, I will continue to campaign for justice for the women affected bystate pension changes.”
