Work on A92 River Leven Bridge in Glenrothes set to start

Works to enable the permanent repair of the A92 River Leven Bridge in Glenrothes will start this weekend.

The unique masonry parapet on the Fife bridge was damaged following a vehicle strike on the bridge in July this year, and the work on Saturday and Sunday will help prepare the site ahead of long-lasting repairs in November.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place for two days to allow the erection of scaffolding in preparation for November’s work.

The bridge will remain open, and once the scaffolding is up the temporary traffic lights will be removed with both lanes open to motorists on narrowed lanes.

Further work is planned on Sunday November 6 from 7pm, when an overnight closure will be put in place for one night to allow delivery of specialist stone and materials.  During the closure traffic will be diverted between Preston Roundabout and Balfarg Junction via A911 The Queensway and B969 Western Avenue.

The main body of work will be done between Monday November 7 and Friday November 18, with temporary traffic lights in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day.

Traffic management will be removed outwith these times, although a 30mph speed restriction will remain in place as traffic will be running on narrowed lanes until the bridge is fully reopened following completion of the repair.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “Safety on trunk roads is of the utmost importance and we are pleased to begin completing the full repair on the bridge following the vehicle strike in the summer.

“The weekend installation of traffic signals is essential while our teams prepare the site for a permanent repair next month.

“We’ve planned the enabling works, erection of scaffolding and full repairs to take place during offpeak hours when traffic flows are generally quieter to limit disruption to motorists as much as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience while we continue with the works on River Leven Bridge, and all efforts will continue to limit disruption to road users until a full repair can be completed on the bridge in November and the road reopened to its full capacity.”
