Fife communities will light beacons along the Forth in a gesture of solidarity with the people of war ravaged Aleppo.
Crail and Earlsferry residents have already joined people from Portobello and North Berwick in signing up for the A Light for Aleppo event taking place at 5pm on November 20.
By helping to form a trail of beacons along both sides of the estuary, Fifers will be showing support and raising funds for people in the city, which is in ruins as a result of civil war.
The campaign has already gone global. People as far afield as South Africa, Japan and Chile are planning their own vigils to coincide with the event.
Behind the campaign is the University of Edinburgh Chaplaincy, which aims to raise funds for the charities Oxfam and Medicins Sans Frontieres, who are working in the region.
University chaplain Rev Dr Harriet Harris said: “Every day, the people of Aleppo have less food and fewer medical supplies, and aid is not getting through.
“We want them to know that they are not forgotten. The people of the world are watching and are upholding their humanity.
“We are helpless to deliver food, medicine or peace, but we will light beacons to send a message of solidarity and hope to stem despair and renew resolve.”
It is hoped the message will be spread on social media using the hashtag #alightforaleppo.
