Snacks made by a Fife company are to be pulled from the shelves after it was claimed they had been put on sale with an extended shelf life.
Kirkcaldy-based Eat & Go Co. Ltd, which also uses the brand name “SoloSnack”, issued a voluntary recall for its range, which includes sausage rolls, bridies and sandwiches, on Saturday following an inspection.
The Food Standards Scotland (FSS) watchdog issued an alert on Tuesday in relation to food produced by the firm, which is believed to sell its products in Fife, Edinburgh and Dundee.
FSS has also asked local councils to pinpoint businesses which are likely to stock the products and make sure they are withdrawn from sale.
The watchdog issued a food alert for action (FAFA) on Tuesday to environmental health officers.
It notes the firm undertook a voluntary product recall on Saturday after an inspection by the Fife local authority “where it was discovered that the shelf life was being extended”.
A remedial action notice (RAN) was then served on the company to restrict the shelf life of the products but further products were found on sale on Monday with the shelf life extended “therefore, breaching the RAN in place”, FSS said.
Naji Yassen, 67, who described himself as managing director of Eat & Go Co. Ltd, which is based at the Mitchelston Industrial Estate, said he was surprised by the development, but would reduce the shelf life on products from six days to three until he can demonstrate through tests that the products are edible for longer.
