Fife’s newest festival will go ahead in August with more acts

Big Country will perform at Fife's May-Day Festival in August this year.

Fife’s inaugural May-Day music festival featuring headliners Big Country has been postponed until August because of poor ground conditions.

The event at Fife Airport in Glenrothes had been expected to go ahead on April 30. Ticket holders have been notified and refunds offered.

It will now take place on Sunday August 13, with all the acts on the line-up confirmed for the new date.

Festival organiser Jason Frew said another couple of acts would be announced in weeks to come to make up for the rescheduled date.

He said: “The ground underfoot is a bit moist this early on in the year. The conditions weren’t really suitable where we were going to put the stage and we had to make sure everything was as safe as possible.

“If we can address the issues, we can hopefully move future events back to the May bank holiday.

“We’ve added a couple of other acts to sweeten things.”

Around 1,500 people are expected to attend the first May-Day festival in August.

The line-up features a wide range of music from international acts, local bands and DJs.

One of the airport hangers will be taken over to accommodate various dance acts.

The event was given a £5,000 grant from Fife Council.

Councillor Linda Erskine said: “The unique setting of Fife Airport and the exciting programme of this boutique festival will certainly attract significant attention from music lovers.

“The council estimates the spend generated by those audiences attending in its first year will contribute around £185,000 for the local economy.”
