Sections of dunes on St Andrews’ famous West Sands were damaged by fire on Saturday evening.
Fire crews were alerted to the blaze shortly before 7pm and sent two crews, one from St Andrews and one from Anstruther.
The crews, working in an area remote from the road network, used two hose reel jets and beaters to extinguish the fire.
A spokeswoman for the service said an area around 10 by 20 metres of sand dunes and grass had been affected.
The cause is not yet known.
However, the drama was captured on social media by Fee Walker who was out walking her dog.
