Fife Council election results — Four parties shares seats in Ward 18: St Andrews

It was a mixed bag in St Andrews as the Liberal Democrats, Conservatives, Labour and SNP all secured seats.

The largest share of first preference votes went to Lib Dem candidate Jane Ann Liston, who returns to the council after 10 years away.

“I’m very glad to be back and I think it’s obvious that there were national messages coming out which overwhelmed the local campaign somewhat,” she said.

“But I think people were still interested in local issues and the people sticking up for local issues, and that’s exactly what I’ve tried to do.”

Conservative candidate Dominic Nolan was delighted to play his part in the overall picture.

“We’ve had some gains and it’s been a great day so far,” he said.

“We’re back, basically, after being out for so long, and it will be interesting to see how huge each party is.

“Who knows if a deal can be struck over the coming hours, but if not then we’ll go into opposition and do the best for our constituents.”

Labour councillor Brian Thomson was also delighted to retain his seat.

He said: “I’m just really, really pleased to be re-elected.

“I’ve really enjoyed being on the council for the last five years, I’ve focused on local issues and there have been a lot of local issues I’ve been working on that I’d like to see through to completion.

“I’ve not really had time to think about the wider picture yet but it will be interesting to see the final shakedown and who will be able to form the next council.”
