Police have urged locals in a Fife town to be vigilant after a shop was left £100 out of pocket in a money changing scam.
The incident took place in Fife Central Retail Park in Kirkcaldy on Saturday, May 6, with a man asking a member of staff to change several £10 and £20 notes.
The man behind the “ringing the changes” scam requested changes during the exchange, confusing the cashier and resulting in him leaving with £100 more than he handed across.
The culprit is described as white, in his mid-30s, 5ft 9in, of small build, with a beard and a Turkish accent.
He was wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a black baseball cap and was in the company of another man.
In a statement, Fife Police Division said: “If you’re asked to change a large amount of money and it’s within store policy to do so, we’d advise calling a colleague or supervisor over to double-check this.
“We’re also asking anyone with information about this incident and who may be able to help with the ongoing enquiries to get in touch.
“Anyone with information can contact Kirkcaldy Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 0967 of 8 May 2017.”
