It’s the country’s new favourite tipple it appears.

And now gin has found its way into ice cream form.

Unveiled at this weekend’s Crail Food Festival will be a new gin ice cream, created by St Andrews ice cream makers, Jannettas Gelateria.

Owen Hazel of Jannettas has launched the new flavour of ice cream, which combines their trademark Italian gelato with Edinburgh Gin’s latest release, Plum and Vanilla liqueur.

The limited edition ice cream will make its debut at Crail Food Festival this weekend.

Because of its alcohol content, the ice cream is available for adults only but Owen will also be on hand to show festival goers how to create the perfect strawberry ice cream.

Owen said: “I approached Edinburgh Gin with the suggestion of us creating a new gelato flavour, which incorporates Edinburgh Gin’s Plum and Vanilla liqueur.

“It was the perfect flavour to use with our creamy vanilla ice cream and I wasn’t wrong. “

The event returns for its seventh year with local flavours, tastings, children’s activities and Sunday Lunch at the harbour.

It opens on Saturday across six venues.

There is an indoor food and drink market in Crail community hall, where visitors can meet the faces behind some of Scotland’s best artisan products, including Kingsbarns Distiller, Balgove Larder and Ardross Farm Shop.

Street food will be cooked on Crail’s Marketgate area where music, local craft beer and munching will be the order of the day.

At the Crail Kirk Hall, Ardross will co-host the cookery theatre with Michelin-starred Geoffrey Smeddle taking part.

A full programme of tastings will take place at Crail Legion Hall.

For the duration of the festival, the seafront Marine Hotel is transformed into a space dedicated to children’s activities.

On Saturday evening, a “foot-stompin’ supper” will take place at Crail Community Hall.

On Sunday the venues come to life again and the indoor food and drink market is replaced by Sunday Lunch at the Harbour.

Meanwhile, a new cookery space at the harbour will host demonstrations.
