Fife was treated to a double header on the Highland Games circuit over the weekend – and thankfully the weather largely played ball too.
Saturday saw Memorial Park play host to the 164th Thornton Highland Gathering, with visitors able to enjoy a full programme of traditional track and field events, Highland dancing, stalls, exhibitions and a pipe band contest for grades three and four and juveniles.
And thankfully, although a bit on the breezy side, the rain stayed away for all those in attendance to make it another successful event.
Meanwhile, heavy rain may have put paid to the first attempt to get Cupar Highland Games on last month, but organisers made the most of the rescheduled date in Duffus Park yesterday.
It was well worth the wait, with the change attracting an even bigger entry for events than there was for the original date.
Cupar too staged a full track running programme for open and youth competitors as well as heavy events, Highland dancing, junior Highland Games and children’s events.
Visitors were also able to catch a glimpse of an interesting entry in the cycling events, namely Katie Archibald MBE who has claimed world, European and Olympic titles over the years.
She is no stranger to grass track riding, having started her career on the Games circuit in 2011 and won the 1600 metres at the Alva Games that year.
