Reigning Dunlop British Touring Car champion Gordon Shedden roars into his home track this  weekend as championship leader.

Scotland’s racing superstar took victory at the most recent round and comes back to Knockhill fired up to extend his title lead.

Flash, who now lives in Auchterarder, is three times British champion in his Honda Civic Type R and his victory in the final race at the last outing ensured that he is at the head of the drivers’ tally as he chases down a fourth title.

A bumper crowd of more than 15,000 is expected at Knockhill.

Director of events Stuart Gray said: “Such is the scale of the event, many of the support classes now test from the Monday onwards so it has now become a seven-day event.

“The main days are the qualifying on Saturday August 12 and race day on Sunday August 13.

“With an entourage of some 2,500 personnel, drivers, mechanics, hospitality staff and PR teams, the event is a huge economic boost for the area as well as being the single biggest event of the year for Knockhill.

“With Gordon doing so well, and local driver Aiden Moffat from Edinburgh now being a race winner as well, there is a huge amount of local interest for the event.”

There is a full support programme to keep all petrol heads enthralled with the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Ginetta sports cars and the high speed British F4 single seaters.

The F4s are having a bumper four races over the weekend with an earlier cancelled round being re-scheduled for Knockhill.

F4 is the championship which saw the serious incident involving Billy Monger at Donington earlier this year.

Billy, or Billy Whizz as he is known, is recovering well from his injuries and was a guest of Lewis Hamilton at the recent British Grand Prix and has already driven an adapted competition car again.
