A man has been charged with murder following a death at a house in Glenrothes on Saturday morning.

Police and paramedics were called to Greenlaw Crescent at around 10am and a 21-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 20-year-old was detained by Fife’s Criminal Investigations Department and was charged with murder on Sunday evening.

He is due to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Monday.

Two houses in the Glenrothes street, in the Macedonia area of the town, remained cordoned off on Sunday.

A tent had also been erected at the front door of one of the houses, understood to be a scatter flat, as an investigation by Police Scotland continued.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Cunningham, of Fife CID, said: Our thoughts are with the man’s family as they come to terms with their terrible loss.

“Officers will be conducting inquiries and high visibility patrols in the local area over the coming days in order to reassure the local community.

“Anyone with any information or concerns can contact officers on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The identity of the deceased is yet to be released.

Neighbours told how police broke down the door of one of the houses on Saturday morning.

One said: “About 10am the police came and they were chapping at the door.

“When I came back home the door had been knocked in.”

Neighbours also told how forensics officers in white suits had been coming and going from at least one of the houses.
