Community members have called for clarity from the police following the death of a woman outside her Dunfermline home.
Injured Margaret Campbell was discovered by neighbours in the back garden of her Izatt Avenue home early on Monday morning with what are believed to be stab wounds.
She died later that day from her injuries, with police currently treating the 66-year-old’s death as “unexplained”.
Local residents said yesterday that they hoped to receive answers as soon as possible.
One neighbour said: “Peggy had been here for a long time but I didn’t speak to her very often.
“We still don’t know what has happened though as we have not heard anything from the police. It would be nice to know what is going on as I do know that people are worried.”
A heavy police presence remained in Izatt Avenue on Tuesday, with officers remaining in place outside the front of the small terraced property where Mrs Campbell lived.
It is understood neighbours saw the wounded pensioner at around 7am on Monday morning before raising the alarm.
Despite being rushed for treatment at Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital, Mrs Campbell died of her injuries just hours later.
Police confirmed on Monday that they were treating the death of Mrs Campbell as “unexplained” and Detective Inspector Paul Dick said that a major investigation was now under way with a report having been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
He added: “Officers are carrying out inquiries in the local area to establish the circumstances.”
Welcoming the continued police presence in the neighbourhood, another resident said yesterday: “It is good to have the police here.
“This is such a quiet place usually. I didn’t know the woman personally but I had seen her around. I think she kept herself to herself though.”
