A four-year-old boy was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a collision involving a car and a lorry in Kirkcaldy.

Emergency services rushed to Wester Bogie Road near Fife Central Retail Park after a call from a mobile phone at around 9.40am on Monday.

The man who was behind the wheel of the car sustained serious injuries and was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy with the child, who was checked over by medics as a precaution.

Police confirmed the driver of the heavy vehicle also sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Although serious, the injuries of both drivers were said to be not life threatening.

Witnesses described the collision near the Oriel Road roundabout as “head on”.

Fire crews from Kirkcaldy and Lochgelly attended the scene, as well as the service’s heavy rescue unit from Alloa.

Fire fighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the man from the vehicle.

Wester Bogie Road was closed at Chapel Road and traffic was diverted.
