Falkland is being transformed for filming of Outlander season four.

A Fife village is due to get a makeover as it prepares to welcome the cast and crew of a hugely popular television series.

Filming of a TV show, rumoured to be season four of Outlander, is due to get under way in Falkland on Thursday and Friday this week.

According to the Fife Council website Falkland High Street, East Port, Cross Wynd and Mill Wynd will be closed to allow for filming of a “period drama” from Wednesday until Friday.

Workmen were busy removing and replacing items around the village to give it a more period look of when the series is set.

The village has been used as a location for the show in previous seasons.

Outlander’s story centres around an English nurse who is transported back to Jacobite-era Scotland. The TV show has millions of fans across the globe and has recently provided a huge boost to the Scottish tourism industry.

Preparations are well under way for the filming of series 4 of Outlander in Falkland.

The historic surroundings of Falkland, where there are some 28 listed buildings, have been used to depict Inverness in decades gone by on the show.

Shops and other businesses in the village are said to be getting new identities and appearances in preparation for this week’s filming.

The village is also the home of Falkland Palace, which was a favoured retreat of the Royal Stuarts – and was frequently visited by Mary Queen of Scots.
