First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has pledged everything possible will be done to help those affected by the sudden closure of a Fife kitchen firm.

She said the Scottish Government would work with Glenrothes-based Murray and Murray, which went into liquidation on Monday with the loss of 38 jobs.

Several customers have been left in the lurch with no guarantees that work already paid for will be completed.

Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth raised the issue at First Minister’s Questions at Holyrood on Thursday.

The SNP MSP asked: “What support can the Scottish Government give to those of my constituents who are affected by those job losses and by Murray and Murray’s unfinished work?”

Ms Sturgeon responded: “We will look to work with the company to minimise any threat to employment and, if redundancies are in prospect, PACE – Partnership Action for Continuing Employment – the organisation that deals with such matters, will work with affected employees to make sure that we help them into alternative employment.”

She added: “This is difficult time for all concerned and the Scottish Government will do everything that it possibly can to assist.”

Murray and Murray, considered one of the leading designers and manufacturers of bespoke kitchens, was wound up by directors amid huge debts.
