Tributes have been paid to a Fife bodybuilder who has lost his battle with cancer.
Father of three Grant Coutts, of Methil, was diagnosed with white cell carcinoma shortly after achieving third place in the international Mr Universe contest.
Having resolved to fight the disease for the sake of his children, he passed away last week.
Leading the tributes was his partner, and mum to his little son Grant, Kerrie Hynes.
She said: “He fought hard.”
Heartbroken Kerrie, 40, said Grant had deteriorated quickly and his death was unexpected.
She described him as a “loving, caring angel”.
Kerrie added: “He was so funny, there was never a dull moment, someone that would do anything for anybody no matter what, if he could.
“He was the guy that once you met him you would never forget him and if you tried he wouldn’t let you.”
The National Amateur Bodybuilders’ Association (NABBA), which runs the Universe competition, also paid tribute to Grant, and said he was one of Scotland’s finest bodybuilders.
When Grant competed in the contest in autumn 2015, he was unknowingly harbouring a huge tumour on his kidney.
When the organ was removed, the tumour was found to be about the size of a newborn baby.
At the time, the Dundonian, who moved to Fife seven years ago, said he refused to be beaten by the cancer.
“My mum and dad both died of cancer but I’ve told myself I will not be beaten by this,” he said.
“I have never been one for lying down.
“The first thing I thought when I was diagnosed was that I have too much life left to live.
“I have two daughters and a son, and I would do anything to help them. I can’t help them if I am dead.”
Friends took to social media to pay their condolences and remember “an absolute legend and a character”.
One wrote: “The light that shines twice as bright only shines for half as long, and Grant shone very brightly.”
