North East Fife motorists have spoken of the extreme conditions on the district’s roads on Friday morning.

Many took to social media to reveal details of road blocking snow drifts and dangerous conditions.

Some were looking for the latest information and contented themselves with a day at home while others expressed anger that some irresponsible drivers – or “muppets” – had got themselves stuck by “taking a chance”.

Bev Harrow said: “This is the current state of play on the A915 south of Largoward.
“We were hoping to venture into town today for essentials for us and our neighbours.
“Does anyone know what the state of the roads are nearer to St Andrews-can someone please have a shufty up the hill at the back of Morrisons?
“Just trying to work out whether it’s the 4×4 or my mate’s tractor we’ll need!”

David Russell said: “This is the road through Largoward – about three to four feet thick due to drifting.

“Only thing I have seen going through are tractors.

“Snow plough had to be dug out last night. I wouldn’t chance this at the moment.”

Meanwhile, an East Neuk farmer criticised some motorists for taking unnecessary chances – and getting stuck.

Posting a video of his own snow clearing efforts on Facebook, he said: “Anstruther to St Andrews B 9131 still a NO go!
