Police hunting for missing student Duncan Sim spoke to scores of drivers as they returned to the spot where he was last seen a week on.
A 30-strong squad of officers interviewed 70 motorists, spoke to members of the public and continued door-to-door enquiries in St Andrews as they tried to piece together the 19-year-old’s movements after he left Madras Rugby Club.
First-year chemistry student Duncan has not been seen since he left a rugby social at the Old Station Road venue at around 11.15pm on Wednesday, March 14.
He failed to return to his accommodation at St Andrews University’s Agnes Blackadder Hall.
Police marked a week since his disappearance by returning to the scene of the last confirmed sighting.
Chief Inspector Steven Hamilton, who is leading the search, said: “Duncan has now been missing for over a week and we continue to use all available resources at our disposal in order to trace him.
“Last night (Wednesday) officers spoke with members of the St Andrews community as we continue to establish Duncan’s movements after he left Madras Rugby Club.
“I would again appeal to the public to think back to last Wednesday evening and ask themselves if they saw Duncan or have seen a man matching his description since this time, to come forward to help with ongoing inquiries.
“As before I would ask local residents to check their vehicles, gardens, outbuildings and sheds as Duncan may have entered these in order to seek shelter.
“I would like to extend my thanks to the local community and members of the public who have come forward following our appeals for information. All of this information is vital to our ongoing inquiries to trace Duncan.
“Anyone with any information that can assist with our investigations is asked to contact us as soon as possible.”
Police officers have been aided by the army and Coastguard as well as more than 100 volunteers from the local community and from Duncan’s hometown, Duns, in the Scottish Borders, who travelled to St Andrews at the weekend.
Residents in nearby Kemback plan to join the hunt if Duncan has not been found before the weekend.
Volunteers have been asked to meet at the top of Jenny’s Steps at 10am on Saturday for a search of the woods.
Duncan is 6ft tall and medium build. He has brown hair, green eyes and was wearing a grey-coloured suit jacket, white shirt and a blue and white tie.
