Four in court after Buckhaven incident

Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.

Four men have appeared in court in relation to an alleged stabbing in Buckhaven on Tuesday.

David Brown, 23, whose address was given as Leven, made no plea to a charge of assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, danger of life and attempted murder during the private hearing at Kirkcaldy.

He is also charged with breach of the peace.

Brown was remanded in custody pending further inquiries and is expected to make a second appearance within eight days.

The three other men are all charged with breach of the peace only and also made no plea.

John Alexander Stewart, 30, and Kieran Turnbull, 20, who are also said to live in Leven, were released on bail and further appearances will be arranged in due course.

Shaun Cooper, 42, was remanded in custody and will be back in court next week.

The charges relate to an incident at around noon on Tuesday when a 27-year-old man was found in the Muiredge area of Buckhaven with serious injuries.

He remains in hospital.

It resulted in a huge emergency response with armed police and dog handlers descending on the coastal town.

Factory Road was cordoned off for around three hours with officers coming and going from a block of flats there as crowds of onlookers gathered.

One local woman described “crazy scenes”, adding that she had never seen anything like it.
