Coastguard teams from Leven and St Andrews helped rescue the woman from Elie Chain Walk
A woman was rescued by sea after falling from Elie Chain Walk.
She suffered a broken ankle when she plunged from the rocky route near Elie on Monday afternoon.
After she was located by the Coastguard teams from both Leven and St Andrews Coastguard she was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Both Anstruther’s inshore lifeboat and all-weather lifeboats were launched.
The woman was then transported by an Anstruther Lifeboat crew to Elie beach, where she could be transferred to a waiting ambulance and taken to hospital.
The unique walk, a challenging scramble over rocks using a series of chains and footholds, is a popular tourist attraction.
However concerns have repeatedly been expressed about its safety, as numerous people have had to be rescued over the years after they have fallen or become cut off by the tide while tackling it.
Witnesses said there was a large emergency response to the incident, which also saw Kinghorn Coastguard team and Police Scotland called out.
