A Fife youngster who beat cancer has urged people to get crafty to raise awareness of the condition in childhood.
Toby Etheridge will be guest of honour at Cupar Flower Show, one of several local organisations taking part in Glow Gold for September.
As well as presenting the prizes, he is to enter his own creations in the competition on Saturday and has encouraged others to do the same.
Twelve-year-old Toby, of Cupar, was declared cancer-free in April after three years of daily chemotherapy for aggressive leukaemia.
He and his family run the charity Toby’s Magical Journey which helps families of children battling cancer.
They pressed for Fife Council to support nationwide Glow Gold for September, and yellow and gold floral displays across to kingdom are now coming into bloom.
Cupar Flower Show organisers and Cupar in Bloom have also pledged their backing for the annual campaign, which sees iconic buildings such as Edinburgh Castle illuminated in gold.
Toby’s mother Alison said she was delighted to see Fife Council and organisations in Cupar getting behind Glow Gold and urged people to sign up to the gold-themed flower and craft show before it is too late.
She said: “It’s the last few days before the kids go back to school and there are so many different arts and crafts they can do to enter.
“Toby is going to have a go for the first time.
“We are looking forward to seeing all the exhibits that people have put so much time and effort into creating.”
Horticulturalists and gardening enthusiasts will show the fruits of their labour at the event organised by Cupar and District Floral and Horticulture Society in Cupar Corn Exchange, alongside creations by children, photography, sewing, cakes and more.
Show secretary Wanda Wheelans said: “The variety of exhibitions in flowers, fruit and vegetables will lead the way for the Cupar Flower Show.
“But equally, exhibits in floral art, handicrafts and needlework, baking, photography, wine-making and preserves will all be major components of the event.
“We have a special theme running through this year’s schedule as the society is supporting the Glow Gold campaign, which aims to raise awareness of childhood cancer.”
Entries for the amateur show should be handed in at the Corn Exchange tomorrow (FRI) between 3pm and 10pm, or on Saturday between 7am to 8.15am for baking only.
The show opens from 11am to 4.30pm on Saturday, preceded by a coffee morning at 10am.
