VIDEO: ‘They’ve just about run out of everything’ – Heartfelt plea for Fife foodbank where shelves are almost bare

A councillor has issued a heartfelt plea on behalf of Cupar Foodbank after finding the shelves almost bare on a day when 10 families sought help.

Karen Majoram posted an emotive video urging people to buy extra to replenish stock when they do their weekly shop.

Cupar Foodbank last year.

Ms Marjoram appeared visibly distraught by what she had seen and heard in the video, which has gone viral on Facebook.

Cupar is a relatively affluent, small town of around 9,000 residents but on the day the SNP councillor visited a dozen local families had gone seeking help to put food on the table.

Volunteers had little to hand over and Ms Marjoram has called on everyone in the town to help them restock their stores.

Looking on the verge of tears in her video, she said the food bank had “just a wee pile of bits and bobs”.

She said: “They’ve just about run out of stuff, everything. You can’t even say get ‘oh, get tins of meat, tins of fruit, toilet roll, whatever,’ just get everything.

“Today they have had 10 families in; 10 families in Cupar who need to use a food bank.

“I don’t know how that makes you feel, I know how it makes me feel.

“Please donate. When you are going shopping this week buy some more stuff.”

Ms Marjoram received numerous messages of support for her plea and people pledged to donate food and other essentials.

Her message was viewed around 10,000 times and shared by almost 200 people eager to help spread the word about the need to support the cause.

Cupar Foodbank is just one of several food banks around Fife which provide food parcels to people in need.

It has a number of collection points where donations can be left, including the Tesco and Co-op branches in the town and local churches.

Cupar Foodbank is based at 21 St Catherine Street.
