A Fife hotel has been shut down following a raid by police investigating serious and organised crime.

Officers carried out enforcement activity at The Kirk Inn on Milton Road in Kirkcaldy on Thursday afternoon.

Uniformed police forced entry at the business at around 12.15pm and a 31-year-old man was subsequently was arrested.

Police yesterday confirmed he has now been released pending further investigation.

A number of items were seized and removed from the hotel which will now be examined by investigators.

The business has also been handed a prohibition order after breaches of environmental health legislation were uncovered.

Officials from Fife Council were also in attendance during the raid which also involved specialist search dogs.

The probe was launched after intelligence was received from members of the local community about possible illegal activity at the site.

Detective Sergeant David Nairn from the East Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit said: “The intention of this enforcement action was to disrupt ongoing criminality, identify any potential offenders, and most importantly, send a message to the community that their concerns have been acted upon.
