An up and coming Kirkcaldy band who supported 1990s Britpop band Cast at a gig in Leven earlier this year are half-way to achieving their dream of selling out another prestigious Fife venue.
Shambolics have set themselves the target of selling out the 700-capacity Lourenzos in Dunfermline on December 1 – and ahead of the band releasing their first single in over a year this week, the band’s singer Darren Forbes revealed they are “well on their way” to making that happen.
Darren told The Courier: “Shambolics are set to release their eagerly anticipated single and their first single in over a year ‘My Time Is Now’ on November 2.
“Almost exactly a month later on December 1 the band will embark on their biggest headline gig to date – a 700 capacity gig at Lourenzos Dunfermline.
“The gig is getting even closer to a sell out and the band hope that by the release of this single it will push it over the line to a complete sell out.”
Darren said both Dunfermline Athletic and Raith Rovers football clubs have helped promote the gig by inviting the band to their home stadiums and playing them on their matchday playlist.
Raith Rovers recently invited them to Starks Park and onto the pitch at half time to talk about the gig and attempt the crossbar challenge.
The new track My Time Is Now was recorded at Motor Museum Studios in Liverpool – the same place where the likes of Oasis, Arctic Monkeys and The La’s recorded.
The track was recorded by Al Groves, a young engineer from Liverpool who has a fast growing reputation as a top UK producer.
Darren added: “By the track’s very first note it is instantly recognisable that it is a recording done at Motor Museum.
“The famous stone drum room gives that instantly recognisable big drum sound which comes across clear on many hits recorded in this studio. Oasis – Supersonic being one of many.
“The drumkit used in the recording was a Tamba Starclassic once owned and regularly used on tour by Leo Crabtree of The Prodigy.”
The music video was filmed at King Tuts Wah Wah Hut, Glasgow at ‘The Shams’ sold out headline show in July.
Shambolics, comprising Lewis McDonald (vocals/guitar), Darren Forbes (vocals/guitar), Jordan McHatton (bass) and Andrew Finlay (drums), have had an incredible couple of years with a string of well-received singles and have played key festivals including the Reading and Isle of Wight events.
Last year The Shams – whose influences include The Beatles, Stone Roses, Oasis, The Smiths and The La’s – also won the Best Rock/Alternative gong at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards.
