A Fife woman was so drunk she mistakenly walked into a neighbour’s house thinking it was her own, before lashing out at the frightened tenant.
Donna Gallagher was found in the hallway of the Cook Street property in Dysart on February 10 last year.
The 33-year-old was asked to leave by George King, who lives at the house with his wife, but began kicking out and flailing her arms.
Her blows struck Mr King, then aged 63, on the shins and chest, prompting his wife to call the police.
Officers quickly arrived on the scene and arrested Gallagher, who continued to struggle violently, repeatedly striking one constable on the body.
Gallagher, who lived in a different property in Cook Street, appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court and admitted two charges of threatening and abusive behaviour and assault.
Fiscal depute Jamie Hilland said: “At around 10.10pm, Mr King and his wife were within their home when they heard the front door open.
“He went to check who was there and saw the accused standing in the hallway at the top of the stairs.
“Mr King asked the accused to leave the property and he was frightened due to her clearly being under the influence.
“At being asked to leave, the accused started shouting and swearing towards the complainer and his wife.
“Mr King tried to get the accused out the house and when he got close to her, she began kicking out and flailing her arms towards him. She made contact with his shins and chest.
“Mrs King called the police who arrived a short time later whilst the accused was still in the house. Both occupants appeared to be visibly shaken.
“The accused was placed under arrest and taken to a marked police vehicle and whilst the officers were trying to get her into the vehicle, the accused repeatedly kicked PC Smith to the chest and leg area. It did not result in any injuries.”
Defence solicitor Steve Gleeson said: “Miss Gallagher’s address is on the same street as the complainer’s and she was heavily under the influence of alcohol.
“She actually thought that she was going into her own house and when the complainer came towards her, she thought there was somebody in her house which resulted in a struggle.
“She tells me she has not consumed any alcohol since this incident.
“She apologises and realises that it was the alcohol which caused the problems, although that was no excuse. The complainers were not known to her at all.”
Sheriff James Williamson fined Gallagher a total of £300.
