A Fife man has been jailed for his part in a vicious assault which shocked the kingdom last summer.
Dylan Flockhart, 22, currently a prisoner at Perth, kicked and stamped on the head of a man who had been walking in the area of Lammerlaws Road in Burntisland on May 19 last year.
The assault was caught on video and shared widely on social media.
The victim did not suffer significant injuries but Flockhart has been sentenced to four months’ imprisonment for the offence.
Appearing at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Flockhart admitted repeatedly kicking and stamping on the head of his male victim, knocking him unconscious.
The court heard how the victim had been drinking with a friend that afternoon and had gone to walk his dog when they encountered a group of young people who had congregated in the area.
Flockhart was part of that group and, after words were exchanged, the victim was assaulted.

Fiscal depute Nicola Henderson said the victim did not recall much of the incident but said: “The complainer remembers being on the ground and the accused initially assaulting him, rendering him unconscious.
“The complainer came to, rubbed his head and found his hands covered in blood.”
Police investigated and footage emerged on social media of the alleged incident which was shared thousands of times.
In the video which was widely circulated, Flockhart was identified as one of the individuals seen to stamp on the victim’s head around four times before being pulled away by other people.
The victim suffered grazes to his head and “general bumps and bruises”, Ms Henderson added, but declined to seek medical attention.
Police caught up with Flockhart on May 31 when he was cautioned and charged, to which he replied with a single swear word.
Solicitor Christine Hagan explained her client had been homeless at the time but was in Burntisland on what had been a warm day, with many people out drinking alcohol.
It was his position that the victim had assaulted his girlfriend, although Miss Hagan said Flockhart conceded that he had acted in the manner detailed in the charge.
Sheriff Pino Di Emidio sentenced Flockhart to four months in prison, adding that he had been “fortunate” that the victim had not suffered more serious injuries.
