End in sight for Mossmorran flaring?

The flaring at Mossmorran is due to end within the next 24 hours, ExxonMobil has revealed.

It a statement issued at 8.30am on Friday April 26 the company said: “Continuing to work day and night, our team is now moving towards the final stages of returning the plant safely back to normal operation.

“Pending any unexpected issues, it is anticipated that we will end flaring within 24 hours.”

The company which runs Fife Ethylene Plant added that major equipment was now online and operating safely.

As of Friday morning the team was finalising the remaining steps to enable a full start up of the plant.

“During this final period of work, there may be some fluctuations to the flare but this is not a cause for concern,” the statement added.

ExxonMobil also reiterated the fact the Scottish Environment Protection Agency had already confirmed there was no cause for concern in relation to the air quality from the latest unplanning flaring at the plant on the outskirts of Cowdenbeath.

However, Sepa has already launched a full investigation into the flaring.
