Europe’s only beach Highland games will bring crowds of spectators to Kirkcaldy.

The fifth Kirkcaldy Beach Highland Games will begin on Saturday with a parade led by Leven and District Pipe Band.

Heavy events will feature in a full programme of traditional competitions, including athletics and Highland dancing.

Sand cyclists will run demonstrations throughout the event, which will run at low tide from 10.30am to 1.30pm.

The games are hosted by local business improvement district company Kirkcaldy 4 All.

Manager Bill Harvey said: “This event has been putting Kirkcaldy on the map over the last few years as Europe’s one and only beach Highland games.

“Events like these rely on the support of local residents so I’d encourage everyone to come on down to the beach on Saturday and enjoy the fun, set against the backdrop of the Firth of Forth.

“It will be an action-packed day but we ask spectators to bear in mind that the day’s schedule is dependent on tide times and the weather, so please keep an eye on our social media for the most up-to-date information.”

The opening parade will set off from the memorial plaque opposite Volunteers Green.
