Trains across Tayside and Fife have been cancelled and delayed due to a signalling fault on the line.

Services to the kingdom, Perth, Edinburgh and Arbroath are among those to have been called off due to the problem between Dalgety Bay and Burntisland.

ScotRail say “fewer trains are able to run on all lines” with journeys between Edinburgh and Fife, Dundee, Perth, Aberdeen and Inverness “delayed or revised” as a result.

Disruption is expected until 6pm.

The following services have been cancelled:

  • 2pm Perth to Edinburgh
  • 14.37pm Edinburgh to Perth
  • 14.39pm Glenrothes with Thornton to Edinburgh
  • 15.05pm Arbroath to Edinburgh
  • 15.08pm Edinburgh to Glenrothes with Thornton
  • 15.35pm Edinburgh to Perth
  • 16.03pm Edinburgh to Arbroath
  • 16.06pm Perth to Edinburgh
  • 17.03pm Perth to Edinburgh
  • 17.44pm Glenrothes with Thornton to Edinburgh

ScotRail posted: “Due to a fault with the signalling system between Dalgety Bay and Burntisland fewer trains are able to run on all lines.

“Train services between Edinburgh and Kirkcaldy may be delayed or revised.

“Our staff are on site and continue to work hard to rectify the fault.

“Once we have more information from the ground we will keep you updated.”

At about 4.35pm the firm updated to say: “The signalling system is back up and operating normally. The team now working to conclude the special arrangements in place to keep services running, once this is done, we’ll be able to begin restoring the normal timetable.”

More to follow.
