A Perth woman who smashed her love rival’s car with a police-style telescopic baton has been jailed.

Meghann Beckers attacked the vehicle belonging to her partner’s ex-wife, before making off with the woman’s handbag.

Yesterday Perth Sheriff Court was shown CCTV of the moment Beckers pounced on her victim.

As Mandy Kerr drove her silver hatchback along Newhouse Place in Perth, Beckers approached the front of the vehicle. She hit it with the pole then opened the passenger door and made off with the handbag.

Beckers, from Perth, had been on bail at the time of the incident with a special condition to stay away from Ms Kerr but ignored it to angrily confront her.

Solicitor Paul Ralph, defending, said she regretted her actions.

He said: “She has a reasonable understanding at this stage of the predicament she has put herself in and the ramifications for herself and for others.

“She is aware a custodial sentence has to be considered.”

Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson had previously told the court: “Mandy Kerr is the estranged wife of the accused’s partner.

“She was pulling out in her car when she saw the accused walking towards her holding a metal baton.

“She struck the window of the car and then opened the passenger door and removed her handbag before running away.”

Beckers, a prisoner in Edinburgh, admitted assaulting Miss Kerr in Newhouse Place on October 26 by brandishing a baton at her and striking her vehicle.

She admitted robbing her of a handbag and breaching a bail condition which had been imposed a fortnight earlier.

She also admitted being in the grounds of a property in Perth with intent to steal on June 4 2017 and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at Perth Royal Infirmary on April 21 2018.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told her there was no other option open to him bar a custodial sentence.

He said: “You have a lengthy record and it is littered with offences of various types – of violence, dishonesty, breach of bail and disorderly conduct. Custody is the only disposal which can follow these matters.”

Beckers was jailed for a total of 32 months and will be supervised for 12 months after her release.
