Perth charity PKAVS will suspend many of its services from Thursday afternoon.

The lifeline support group said any activities which involve clients physically coming together will be cancelled until further notice.

PKAVS said the decision was taken to protect staff, clients and volunteers during the coronavirus outbreak.

Meanwhile other services, including Shopmobility and day-care activities at the PKAVS carers centre in Lewis Place and Rattray Community Hall, Blairgowrie, will begin closing from today (Wednesday).

Chief executive Paul Graham said: “During this time of uncertainty, it is crucial that we continue to support our clients as much as possible, through alternative methods which protect the health of our staff, volunteers and their families.

“The decision to close some of our services was difficult but, fundamentally, it is what we need to do to protect those most at risk of infection during this outbreak.”

All face-to-face support will be suspended until further notice.

PKAVS works with many people throughout Perth and Kinross, and will be adjusting the delivery of their service using alternative methods. This may include deliveries to more vulnerable clients, telephone support to combat social isolation, advice lines and other ways they are able to provide support at this time.

The PKAVS team can still be contacted on 01738 567076.
