Volunteer community groups from across Perth have come together to ensure residents across the city have access to support when they need it.
Each of the 12 groups is offering help to people in the Fair City who are self-isolating, including dropping off shopping, collecting prescriptions and making telephone calls.
The groups involved are:
Bridgend, Gannochy and Kinnoull Community Council
Kinnoull Parish Church
Letham4All
Loving Your Neighbour Group
National Christian Outreach Centre (The Mustard Seed)
North Muirton Community Council
North Perth COVID-19 Group
Perth Baptist Church
Perth North Church
Riverside Church
St Mary’s Monastery and
Tulloch Net.
They have been backed by the Perth and Kinross Council Health and Social Care Partnership in their work.
SNP councillor for the Perth City Centre ward, Andrew Parrott has praised the efforts of the community groups in the city.
He said: “Difficult times tend to bring out the best in people and at this most difficult of times many, many people in our community are volunteering to help where they can in a wide variety of ways.
“I am delighted to see that we now have a number of groups who have come together to ensure that across the city no-one who needs help should be without it.
“I am sure I am not the only one who will want to say a big thank you to all those who are volunteering.”
He urged volunteers to be mindful of their health and the health of others while carrying out these tasks.
He said: “I would caution only that being a volunteer does not provide immunity from the COVID-19 virus and I would implore all those who are volunteering to always be mindful of their own health and the health of those they are seeking to assist.”
Councillor for the Perth City North ward, John Rebbeck echoed Mr Parrott’s praise for Perth’s voluntary workers.
He said: “It’s great that the communities of North Perth have come together at this time.
“Everybody is doing what they can, whether that’s the unbelievable volunteers at Letham4all or Tulloch community group, the fantastic staff at the local Co-op or people simply just staying home when it’s appropriate.
“It’s been a great example of proper community.”
