A group of Perth men have raised £3000 for Kinross-based Rachel House through its charity poker night in memory of Ava Soutar.

The Ava Cup fundraiser was set up after the eight-year, who stayed at Rachel House, passed away in February after contracting meningitis.

Dean Sinclair was among those involved in setting up the charity event.

He said: “When I was made aware of Ava passing from her uncle Gary McWilliams I knew right away we had to do something to raise money for Rachel House in Kinross where Ava spent her last days.

“Gary is well known in Perth poker community so what better way to raise funds then have a charity poker day.

“So along with few other friends we went knocking on local business for raffle prizes and for that a big thanks to all of the self-employed people small and big businesses in Perth for sending gifts for us to use as raffle prizes.”

Community Fundraiser for CHAS, Maxine Campbell said: “For families who can’t come to the hospices due to social distancing and self-isolation, the hospice can come to them.

“With the money given to us, it is possible for families to continue receiving the support they need, even while isolating at home.”

Meanwhile. Hollywood star Gerard Butler has encouraged further fundraising for CHAS through an upcoming “girls’ night in”.

The Big Girly Quiz will be streamed live on Facebook on June 5 and has been organised in place of four CHAS ladies lunches and the charity’s annual Rocking Horse Ball which have all had to be cancelled.

Butler, whose family stays in Comrie, will join a host of other famous faces participating in the event which will be jointly hosted by Britain’s Got Talent star Edward Reid and Perth comedian, Fred MacAulay.

The 300 star said: “I know it’s hard for everybody just now but especially for charities who rely on donations.

“We will challenge you on all your knowledge of movies, music, fashion and so much more, so get a group of your friends together, virtually of course, and join me and other surprise guests on the night.

“Together we can really get through this.”

The Big Girly Quiz will cover music, chick-flicks, showbiz and sport and will feature a raffle with top prizes.
