A hillwalker has died after having a heart attack in a rural Perthshire glen at the weekend.
Emergency services, including police, paramedics and Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance, rushed to Glenshee at lunchtime on Saturday after receiving reports of a man falling ill.
The 61-year-old had been walking at Gleann Taitneach, a popular Grampian valley also known as “the pleasant glen” at the edge of Perth and Kinross.
Emergency service crews arrived at Loch Nan Eun, a focal beauty spot at the end of the valley, where the man was found already dead.
The scenic loch, which is particularly popular with anglers fishing for trout, has two small islands and is found at a height of around 750 metres.
Located about four and a half miles for The Cairnwell where the popular Glenshee Ski Centre is based, the body of water is one of Courier Country’s most remote spots.
Local residents reported a large emergency services presence heading north along the A93 that afternoon.
There is no suspicion surrounding the death, police say, and standard procedure will be followed with providing a report to the procurator fiscal.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a 61-year-old man having taken unwell around 1.25pm on Saturday, July 11, on Loch Nan Eun, Gleann Taitneach.
“Emergency services including the heli-med attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Blairgowrie and the Glens councillor Bob Brawn said: “I have been advised of an incident which occurred in Glenshee on Saturday afternoon and resulted in a fatality.
“At this time my thoughts and prayers, and I’m sure those of the Glen residents, are with the man’s family for their sad loss.
“Although a tragic end, I would like to thank all of the first responders for their efforts in trying to save this man’s life. I know they would have done everything they possibly could.”
