Police are investigating after a driver hit another motorist’s car with a baseball bat “a number of times” following a minor collision.

The incident took place on Sunday at around 1.45pm on the southbound A9 Perth to Inverness road, about five miles north of Bankfoot.

A grey Vauxhall Astra pulled out in front of a red Mercedes A-class and braked suddenly, causing a minor collision.

The driver of the Astra got out of his car and hit the Mercedes with “a baseball bat or similar item a number of times”.

The driver of the Mercedes, however, managed to get away.

Police have describe the Astra driver as a white male with a tanned complexion, around 5ft 9 with a stocky build, short dark hair and facial stubble.

He was wearing a grey short sleeved t-shirt and blue jeans at the time of the incident.

A Police Scotland statement read: “This happened in a live lane of the A9, which was busy with traffic at the time.

“While we are following positive lines of inquiry, we would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident, or may have dashcam footage of all or part of it.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident 2098 of August 23.

Information can also be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
