A pupil at a Perth secondary school has tested positive for Covid-19.

The case at St John’s RC Academy was confirmed in a letter to parents from headteacher Sean Hagney.

Contacts of the youngster have been told to isolate, but the school remains open.

Based at the city’s North Inch Community Campus, the school takes in children from nursery age to 18.

Mr Hagney confirmed the pupil was in a secondary year.

He wrote: “The close contacts of this person have been identified by the Public Health Team at NHS Tayside and must now enter isolation.

“This is a precaution. This isolation is from the date of last contact (August 18) for 14 days. Therefore, these close contacts can return to school on September 2.”

Mr Hagney told parents: “I recognise that this information may be concerning to you. Please be assured that St John’s RC Academy remains open.

“The school is working in partnership with NHS Tayside, Public Health Scotland, and Perth & Kinross Education and Children Services.

“The multi-agency group has assessed the infection and prevention control plans that are in place in the school, and they have confidence in the stringent measures we have introduced to control the spread of coronavirus.”
