The 6th annual Perth Beer Festival could end up in the Guinness Book of World Records if organisers get their way.
As well as beer, games and live music, there will be an attempt at breaking the world record for the fastest pass of a rugby ball at the May 7 event. The record is currently held by scrum half Joe Simpson of London Wasps, who set the record in 2011 by passing a ball at 48 miles per hour.
Members of Perthshire Rugby, which is organising the festival, are already practising to try and steal the record from the Wasps.
Festival visitors will be encouraged to have a go on the day, at a stall promoting Mindspace, a counselling and support service based in Perth.
Dave Anderson, who will be coordinating the attempt and measuring ball passes with a radar speed gun, said: “I would love to see one of the Perth Beer Festival visitors beat the London Wasps, and I’m sure we can.”
Allan Brown, chief executive of Perthshire Rugby, said the festival kept getting bigger and better.
