A man accused of stealing dogs from homes in rural Perthshire has been released from custody.
The 38-year-old was due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday.
A Crown Office spokeswoman confirmed he had been “liberated” and would not appear as scheduled.
“The Procurator Fiscal received a report concerning a 38-year-old male in connection with alleged incident said to have occurred on October 20,” she said.
“The accused was liberated from custody pending further enquiries and did not appear in court.
“The case against him remains live and under consideration.”
A nationwide manhunt was launched after four dogs were taken from two rural properties near Blairgowrie on Tuesday.
Two of the dogs were since recovered in and around the Midlands town of Bromsgrove, around 360 miles away.
The remaining two are still missing.
