Law catches up with quad bike thieves who escaped chasing farmer

A farmer chased thieves in his car as they fled his Pitlochry premises with his stolen quad bike in their van.

David Munro, Darren White and Barry Anderson were spotted loading the £1900 quad bike into the back of their van at Milton of Tulliemet Farm.

The farmer, who was working in his shed at the time, jumped into his own car and attempted to block the thieves from leaving. However, the trio pushed past his vehicle and, despite the farmer’s efforts to follow them, made off into the countryside.

Police Scotland eventually traced the van, discovering all three thieves and the quad bike inside. On the same day the van was also spotted by CCTV scoping the scene at Mains of Killiechangie Farm, Pitlochry, before heading off.

Sheriff William Wood heard further evidence that White, 32, was present when a Polaris Sportsman quad bike, worth £5000, was sold for £1000 at a Kirkcaldy industrial estate.

Munro received a 17-month prison sentence, White received a 23-month sentence and Anderson will receive his punishment at a later date after Sheriff Wood called for reports.

Munro, 31, and White, both Perth prison, and Anderson, 29, Myreside Avenue, Kennoway, admitted that on February 1 they were within the curtilage of Mains of Killiechangie Farm, Pitlochry, without lawful authority to be there so that it could be inferred that they intended to commit theft.

They also admitted stealing a quad bike from Milton of Tulliemet Farm, Tulliemet, Pitlochry.

White admitted a further charge that he reset a quad bike at Mitchelston Industrial Estate, Kirkcaldy, between January 22 and February 1 this year.
