The Better Perth campaign, which was set up last year to re-energise the high street, has launched a study of city centre shopping habits.

The group behind First Thursday late-night shopping events want to get a clearer picture of how the Fair City is viewed by customers.

The Shoppers’ Barometer, an online questionnaire, asks for feedback on a number of hot topics including parking, opening hours and Sunday trading.

A spokesman for the group said: “The retail trading environment and shopper behaviour have changed a great deal over recent years. Towns, city centres and their retailers need to adapt, change and innovate to stay relevant to today’s shoppers.”

“We often hear the views and ideas of traders and city managers about the good things happening in the city, as well as the various challenges, but it is not so often that we hear from the shoppers themselves.

“We want to provide shoppers with a louder voice and a platform to share their views and ideas about shopping in Perth. It’s only by listening to the views and ideas of shoppers and understanding their needs and motivations that city centres and traders can focus on delivering real value that shoppers will care about.

“It’s our hope that through these surveys, Better Perth can act as a conduit for these views and ideas, driving more innovation and shopper value over the longer term.”
