This summer’s T in the Park will feature a classical homage to David Bowie and Prince.

Organisers DF Concerts have confirmed that the Rogue Orchestra will be joining the festival’s packed line-up to honour the two much-missed rock legends who died earlier this year.

The classically trained musicians will open the Main Stage on Sunday.

David Bowie was due to headline the event in 2004, but had to bow out because of a persistent shoulder injury.

Festival director Geoff Ellis, who has tried to book Bowie every year since, said he wanted to do something to pay tribute.

He said he was inspired to book the Rogue Orchestra after watching a clip of them performing Life on Mars at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

The gig will feature classical versions of some of Bowie’s best known songs and finish up with a Prince medley.

Bowie died of cancer, aged 69, at his Manhattan home in January. The music world was left shaken again when Prince was found dead at his Paisley Park mansion in Minnesota.

DF Concerts has secured all relevant permits for this summer’s show. Among this year’s performers will be the Stone Roses, Calvin Harris and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
